You're scaring me...

Here at Keele University I have been tasked to find a shared calendar
solution that works with these new fangled PDA's and phones.

I was impressed with the number of Universities running Meeting Maker
and recently downloaded the evaluation copy. I've just abandoned that
as the new version doesn't support mobile clients directly and instead
works through Notify Link so there's no point in evaluating MMCO and
Intellisync. We're a mostly Linux shop here so the lack of a Linux
version of Notify Link until 2007 is a bit of a shame but I was still
happy to go with an evaluation of it once I can get a copy.

However I notice that on this list there's a lot of discontent with the
product and not a lot of support for the new 8.6 version with Notify
Link. This is scaring me and making me think that Meeting Maker isn't
the right choice after all.

Is there anyone out there with an 8.5.* version who is really happy with
the product?

Has anyone evaluated the new Notify Link product with 8.6 and decided to
deploy it?

What alternatives is everyone looking at?

This discussion list I've sometimes termed the "Meeting Maker Flame List" as
some small set of users seem to prefer to continuously bash the product
instead of use the vast amount of knowledge the people on this list hold to
gain a better experience. There are still many people here that still like
and use the product.

That's true. Unfortunately, Meeting Maker (er, PeopleCube) seem to spend
more time rebranding and acquiring new products than they do developing
Meeting Maker. They've completely failed to adopt open standards, and the
product -while pretty good and stable for what it does- just doesn't work
nicely with the rest of the world.

Meeting Maker has done a great deal to annoy people.

I have been a user since the beginning and I have noticed buggy software
being released. Bugs happen but software should not be released when
basic functions do not work. All my linux people picked up PCs so they
would not have to deal with the html client.

MMCO, we have a bug that sends the process to 100%. They patch it and
introduce another bug where the client drops and connects
continuously. I have a support case sent them log files and they will
not respond to questions anymore.

So yes. In some cases they earned the flaming......

I wasn't going to deploy 8.6 because we have had nothing but problems
with 8.5.x

However, we have been playing with Notifylink and found them to be
rather good for support and really know their stuff.

I am going to roll out 8.6. I figure the notifylink stuff will be
good but the rest? Well we shall see.....
