The installer seems not to respond when it install some .jar files. Meeting
Maker staff replied that Mac OS X has changed the path to JAVA. So it takes
a while for the installer to search through the system to locate JAVA. The
installer will finish eventually. It may take 30 minutes or longer though.

The installer also scans network volumes for installations
of meetingmaker. After turning on Appletalk the installer still delays but
works better.

You can also try installing 7.3. It's worked for some OS X systems and not
on others.

To which I reply:

This is sick and wrong and disgusting, but try disconnecting from any
mounted servers while running the installer. If you're running AFS on
those machines, you may actually need to reboot with AFS off.

I have a vague memory that the stupid installer tries to search all mounted
volumes for something, which can take a *very* long time, especially for
AFS.

Unplugging the network cable before installing meeting maker made it work
perfectly. Installation took about 15 seconds. That's more like it.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

That's not really relevant. The installer for 8.5 was built for MacOSX and
is much better than the installer for 7.5.

Does 8.5 on OSX work with 7.5 MM servers?

No, that's why the improved installer in 8.5 isn't relevant to someone
using 7.5

8.5 and version 7 are not cross compatible. You have to upgrade your clients and servers at the same time.

Actually I believe the problem is not with Meeting Maker but with who they use to package the installer, ZeroG.

We ran in to a similar problem where the installer would launch and then just quit.

No matter what we did, we couldn't get it to launch and this only happened on ONE Mac with OS X.3. Searched the ZeroG forums and found a section where Meeting maker complained about the same problem and ZeroG did not offer any help.

The posted solution that they found the only thing that could fix it was to reinstall the whole OS.

Instead of doing such a radical solution, we simply copied the meetingmaker folder from Applications on another system. Since Meeting Maker is self contained, it worked like charm. Only problem was if they wanted to use a Palm we would have had to copy over the Palm conduits as well.

Have I hit information overload yet? ;-)
